Lyons

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Alexandra Lyons brings a global perspective and a deep-rooted passion for maritime law to her practice. A lifelong sailor and competitive rower, Alexandra’s early connection to the water shaped her academic and professional journey. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with high honours from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied Government and Philosophy of Law. Her transformative experience aboard Semester at Sea, living on a ship while traveling across Asia and Africa for six months, sparked her enduring interest in international law, maritime governance, and global trade.

Alexandra earned her Juris Doctor degree, graduating with high honours, from Tulane University School of Law.  While at Tulane, she was a senior editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal, where both of her articles were selected for publication, a rare distinction in the journal’s history. Other highlights while at Tulane include studying abroad at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia, and receiving the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in World Trade Organization (WTO).

A U.S. qualified attorney, Alexandra began her career at a top maritime and transportation law firm in Chicago, representing global clients across the ocean, air, and inland freight sectors in complex commercial disputes, both non-contentious and contentious, spanning multiple jurisdictions. She is a member of the Maritime Law Association, the Transportation Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. In parallel, she has served as lead counsel and strategic drafter in constitutional litigation before federal appellate courts and the US Supreme Court, challenging the extraterritorial reach of U.S. maritime enforcement laws. Her scholarship on the federal statute and subject matter continues to inform national reform efforts.
